HENDERSON -- Angelyn Stanton recorded 10 kills in Cumberland University's final game of the 2010 season as the Bulldogs fell in straight sets (25-11, 25-21, 25-19) to Bethel University in an elimination game of the TranSouth Championships at Freed-Hardeman University's Sports Center late Tuesday night.

Earlier in the day, Cumberland dropped a 3-1 (25-22, 13-25, 21-25, 22-25) decision to top-seeded Union University before rebounding with a 3-2 (25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-8) victory over rival Trevecca Nazarene University and bouncing the Trojans from the tournament.

CU ends the season with a 24-13 record after opening the year with 10 straight wins.

This year marks the fourth straight season the Bulldogs have gone 2-2 in the conference tournament. Bethel also eliminated CU in 2007.

Playing in their third match of the day, the Bulldogs ran out of gas against Bethel as the Wildcats jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first set. During the stretch, Cumberland's only points came on Stanton's kills and the Bulldogs committed three hitting errors. BU also tallied three aces during the run.

Cumberland totaled eight attack errors in each set, hitting .040 in the match.
