Registration will also be open at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday prior to the 8 oclock start of the event. Watson said the cost will increase on Saturday to $40 and that chips will not be available.
Weve ordered 4,000 T-shirts and those will be available on a first come, first served basis, she explained. Participants should arrive early for parking.
Parking will also be available at First United Methodist Church and Immanuel Baptist Church with shuttles running from those locations to the run start at Wilson Bank & Trust.
Sherrys Run began in 2004 as a way for friends to honor the life of Sharon Sherry Patterson Whitaker.
Whitaker was diagnosed in February 2003 with a deadly form of colon cancer known as adenocarcinoma after experiencing some discomfort in her side.
Although she began treatment that included surgery and three rounds of chemotherapy, Whitaker lost her battle on May 12, 2004.
Proceeds from Sherrys Run benefit cancer patients in Wilson County by helping them with medical expenses and needs year-round.
Watson said this year they are giving away free colon cancer test kits to participants and will also have a bone marrow registry onsite.
More than 2,000 participants had signed up for the 10th annual Sherrys Run by Monday morning, and Watson expects that number to grow by the thousands by Saturday.
