W.P. Bone III was honored at the Good Scout Award Luncheon on Wednesday. The annual event was hosted by the Walton Trail District of the Boy Scouts of America and held at the Capitol Theatre in Lebanon.

Wilson County Friends of Scouting Chairman Tab Kirkland presented Bone with the 2017 Wilson County Good Scout Award.

He described the award as a honor bestowed to an individual who "helps others" and "does their best at all times."

"This award is given to someone whose personal and public contributions enhance our community and the world in which we live. This award distinguishes those who go above and beyond expectations," he explained.

Kirkland added that Bone is someone who he has looked up to in his own life.

"He is truly a fine, outstanding man. I couldn't be more proud to present you with this," he said.

Bone was humbled by the award. He said that the tradition of being a boy scout lives on in his family through his grandsons.

"I appreciate all of you who are here today," he said.

Bone is co-owner of Wilson County Chevrolet, Buick and GMC. He serves on the executive Board of the Boy Scouts' Middle Tennessee Council. He is a U.S. Army veteran, as well as a former Cumberland University student. He continues to serve on the school's board of trust.
