Matthew Sedgwick (2-0) tossed 5.1 innings of relief to post the victory, by far the longest outing of his career. The righthander allowed one unearned runs on two hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.Caleb Luttrell (1-3), the second MCU pitcher, took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning.

Cumberland scored twice in the first inning when Urquhart and Hall both walked to start the frame and Urquhart scored on Monsons single to right. Hall came across on Daniel Harrisons single to right as well for an early advantage.

CU ended the game with a run in the eighth singles from Brodie Ross and Daniel Harrison before Tyler Anderson was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Richie Seatons single to rightcenter plated the final run to invoke the run rule for the game.Cumberland hosts long-time rival Trevecca Nazarene on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and concludes the regular season this weekend, taking on Bluefield College in a three-game series at home starting Friday.
