Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post for Wilson County is Post 5015 in Lebanon. The Post meets at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month in the Veterans Building at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center. Any veteran who has been awarded a Campaign Medal or Combat Medal for any hostility is eligible for membership, verified by the veterans' DD 214 Form. Presently, Post 5015 is having success in rebuilding its post and becoming active in district and local events. It is not a Lebanon post, but a countywide post. Do you need a high school equivalency (HSE) diploma (formerly GED)? The Adult Learning Center at 107 North Greenwood in Lebanon offers free preparatory classes in Lebanon and Mt. Lebanon Wilson County Chamber of Commerce hosts Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto from 1:30 until 3 p.m., the last Wednesday of each month, and District 46 State Rep. Mark Pody from 8 until 10 a.m., the first Friday of each month, at the chamber's office at 149 Public Square. Citizens are encouraged to come and share their concerns and views with these elected officials.

Meals On Wheels volunteers are needed to deliver meals in Mt. Juliet to homebound older adults on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Meals are ready to be picked up by 9:30 a.m., at the Mt. Juliet Senior Activity Center, 2034 North Mt. Juliet Road, and the delivery usually takes about an hour. Routes are typically less than 20 miles of travel. Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 7463 Hickory Ridge Road, Mt. Juliet, has opened a food pantry available to those who have a need. The pantry is open the third Wednesday of every month, from 5 until 6:30 p.m., and is for all Wilson County residents. For information, call 444-2390.

Women's Auxiliary of Tyler Cates Post 281 will host a fund-raiser for veterans at Courtney's Restaurant in Mt. Juliet on Saturday, Oct. 15. Come and eat and rock - breakfast, lunch, dinner, the big UT/Alabama game. Rock for veterans and donate. On Saturday evening, come and rock with the night's band. It will be great fun while raising money for veterans.

Long Hunter Mega-Hike, now in its 10th year, will allow participants to hike all of Long Hunter State Park's trails - about 26 miles - in a single day on Saturday, Oct. 22. Whether you hike only a couple of miles or all 26, the objective is to have fun, enjoy the fall foliage and experience the wide variety of habitats Long Hunter has to offer. Bring water, lunch, snacks and good hiking shoes. Those who complete all 26 miles will receive a special certificate of merit. Meet at the Couchville Lake parking lot in Area 2 at 6:45 a.m.; the hike begins promptly at 7 a.m. The event is sponsored by the Friends of Long Hunter State Park.

Board of Directors of the Joint Economic and Community Development Board of Wilson County will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 a.m. at the JECDB office, located at 115 North Castle Heights Avenue, Suite 102, in Lebanon.

BelkGives on the Go Mobile Mammography Center, a state-of-the-art screening center on wheels, will stop at the Mt. Juliet Belk store in Providence Marketplace on Tuesday, Oct. 25 from 9:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. The center offers free, convenience mammography screenings. Women age 40 and over with no breast concerns, who have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months and have a primary care physician are eligible by calling (855) 655-2662 to schedule an appointment. All screening exams are performed by Charlotte Radiology's licensed female mammography-certified technologists. A board-certified radiologist, specialized in breast imaging, will interpret the mammogram, and confidential results will be sent to the patient and her primary care physician.
