Former coach at Portland High
As was reported by The Wilson Post last week via Twitter, Wilson Central High Principal Travis Mayfield has hired Portland High basketball coach Chris Carney as his new boys basketball coach.

Carney, 29, replaces Tyler Brown who resigned in June after one season at the Wildcat helm, leading the team to a record of 12-15.

Carney has been the Panther coach for the past four seasons, running up a record of 31-81 -- including 6-23 last year. He will teach Physical Education at WCHS,

"Don't let the overall record fool you," Mayfield said. "Chris came in here a couple of years ago and beat one of our best teams. He knows the district and he sees Wilson Central as a destination job."

Brown, who took over following the resignation of Troy Bond, has been hired as an assistant coach at Spring Hill High in Maury County.

Since starting the Wilson Central hoops program when the school opened in 2001, Bond's teams compiled a won-loss record of 269-152 -- a winning percentage of .639 and earned four trips to the TSSAA state tournament during his 14-year run.
