Lady 'Cats reach 9-AAA finals
MT. JULIET -- Wilson Central broke open a 1-1 match by winning two straight sets to upset No. 1-seeded Mt. Juliet 3-1 Tuesday in the semifinals of the District 9-AAA volleyball tournament.
Game scores: 25-21, 13-25, 25-18 and 27-25.
Wilson Central entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed and knocked off No. 4 seeded Beech in Monday's opening round.
"We are so, so very excited to be playing for a shot at the championship Thursday," said head coach Jessamyn Bradley.
Hannah Potts led the Central attack with 17 kills and Delaney McCorkle added 11.
Freshman setter Emilee McDonald totaled 40 assists.
Kendl Tomlin had 15 digs, Loren Schmitt 10 and Ashlyn Guethlein nine.
With the win, the Lady Wildcats improved to 25-20 on the season and will play Portland 6 p.m. Thursday in the tournament finals.
By virtue of reaching the district finals, WCHS will advance to next week's regional tournament.

All-District team announced -- Play opened Monday in the District 9-AAA volleyball tournament. First round losers were eliminated. Semifinals are set Tuesday, Oct. 4. All games will be played at Mt. Juliet High School.

No. 3-seeded Portland eliminated No. 6 Lebanon 3-1 Monday, Oct. 3 in the opening round of the 9-AAA tournament.
Game scores: 18-25, 28-30, 25-23 and 18-25.
Jasmine Fuqua led the LHS attack with 17 kills.
Haylee Wilson added seven kills, Maleigha Oldham five and Sydney Becht had five kills and three blocks.
Zia Hamilton was credited with 21 assists.

Mt. Juliet 3, Gallatin 0
No. 1-seeded Mt. Juliet moved to 28-4 on the season with a 3-0 win over Gallatin in Monday's 9-AAA opening round.
Game scores: 25-11, 25-9 and 25-11.
Tavie Bell had 15 kills for the winners, while Ashlynn Rudzinski finished with 19 assists.
Samantha Khoury added 12 digs and Cassidy Harris finished with three blocks.

Wilson Central 3, Beech 2
No. 5-seeded Wilson Central went to five sets to record a 3-2 victory over N. 4 Beech in Monday's District 9-AAA tournament opener.
Game scores: 26-24, 25-11, 25-27, 16-25 and 15-11.
The win moved the Lady Wildcats into a Tuesday afternoon loser-out match with top-seeded Mt. Juliet.
The winner earns a berth in the district finals Thursday.
