NASHVILLE -- Wilson Central's 4,000 meter relay team brought home top honors in the Sunday, Feb. 19 Tennessee High School Indoor Championships -- held at Vanderbilt University.
Sponsored by the Knoxville Track Club, the event in not affiliated with the TSSAA, but still attracts top track and field athletes from across the state.
The foursome of Joel Barlow, Baylor Franklin, John Elrod and Nathan Peterson had the top time among 16 entries -- finishing in 10:25.54.
Franklin also finished sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.52.
Elrod scored an eighth place finish in the mile -- running the course in 4:28.45.
Barlow finished second in the two-mile with a time of 9:49.55.
Lebanon had two top 10 finishes in the high jump -- David Covile seventh at 1.85 meters and Irvaughn Dewberry eighth at 1.80 meters.
Mt. Juliet Christian Academy's Cole Shea registered a second place finish in the pole vault at 4.35 meters.
Two locals placed in the top 15 in the long jump, Shea finished 11th at 6.01 meters and Dewberry came in 15th at 5.72 meters. Dewberry finished ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.46 meters.
Lebanon's Anthony Hafner finished fifth in the shot put with a heave of 13.13 meters.
Three local girls competed with Mt. Juliet's Julia Karsten placing fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.18.
Lebanon's Ashley Grimes competed in the 60 meter dash and recorded a time of 10.55 -- just missing the finals.
Monica Maclin of Lebanon turned in a high jump of 1.41 meters -- good enough for an eighth place finish.
