Child ejected in head-on collision

A two-car head-on collision resulted in a child being ejected from one of the vehicles.

The incident happened around the Sparta Pike and Greenwood Road intersection at about 8 a.m., Friday.

According to authorities, the driver of a Ford Taurus, identified as Shelley Burton, reportedly crossed the center line and hit an SUV that was driven by Susan Eskew.

Authorities said that Burtons vehicle flipped and came to rest some 10 to 15 down an embankment.

The unidentified child, who was in a booster seat, was ejected. It was unclear which vehicle the child was in.

The drivers of both vehicles sustained injuries and were transported to hospitals. Burton was said to be in critical but stable condition. Eskews condition was unknown.

The child who was ejected was also transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but his condition was unknown, also.

Authorities noted that charges were pending against Burton.
