Lebanon Ward 6 City Councilor Kathy Warmath presented a proclamation to the family of the late Bobby Jewell on Tuesday night on behalf of Speaker Ron Ramsey, Sen. Mae Beavers and State Rep. Mark Pody and Susan Lynn.
"We are just the messengers," she said humbly before presenting the honor.
The proclamation noted that Jewell, a former city councilor and mayor of Lebanon, "always endeavored to remain true to family values of the highest order."
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sammie Jones Jewell and his children Lanny Jewell, who is currently serving on the city council, Mark (Claudia) Jewell and Ranie (Keith) Ford. He also had many grandchildren, granddaughters, Halle Ford, Lexie Ford, Lara (Mackenzie Green) Jewell, Logan (Kyle) Craighead and Kendra Thompson and four great-grandchildren, Mason Craighead, Breyten Craighead, Cayleigh Barber and Gunner Green.
"Bobby Jewell leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity in public life, compassion and loyalty in private life and diligence and dedication in all his chosen endeavors," Warmath's recitation continued.
The proclamation read that "it is fitting that this body should pause to remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being."
