The City of Lebanons annual spring cleanup began Monday and will run through the second week of April.
Residents are encouraged to discard unwanted items generally not exceeding the volume that could be loaded in the back of an average pickup truck and place them in trash bags. Items such as wood and metal should be separated.
Tires, hazardous waste, chemicals, paint and wet batteries will not be picked up. All compressors must be removed and all doors must be removed from any refrigerator or freezer. Commercial property and contractual or construction waste from residential properties will not be accepted. Mattresses, box springs, carpet and carpet padding also will not be picked up.
Janan Calvo with the Public Works Department said that for some residents the pickup will coincide with their regular trash pickup, but for others it will not. A safe bet is to get your items that need to be picked up out on Sunday evening so that they wont get missed, she said. Each resident will have two pickups during the two weeks.
Calvo said those who are concerned about the date of their spring pickup can call 444-0825 ext 121 between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday thru Thursday. People who have lived here for a while usually know the day of their pickup, but some dont. We can look them up on the map when they call in, she said.
Lebanon Mayor Philip Craighead said that the city is appreciative of Wilson Countys support during this initiative for allowing them to use the county landfill at no charge.
