Will take over at Franklin High --
GLADEVILLE -- John Wild has resigned as girls basketball coach at Wilson Central High to take over at Franklin High School in Williamson County.

Wild informed the team of his decision in a Friday morning, April 28 meeting after having told the administration earlier in the week.

Wild coached the Lady Wildcats to a record of 88-12 in his three-year stint at WCHS, including two District 9-AAA champions, a Region 5-AAA crown

His 2015-2016 team earned a berth in the Class AAA state quarterfinals where they lost to Memphis Central 48-43.

Wild, who recorded his 500th career victory in December of 2016, is one of three Tennessee high school basketball coaches to have won both a boys and a girls state championship.

Wild replaces Darrell Barnwell, who resigned at FHS earlier this month.

"I had a hard time with this decision because (WCHS Principal) Travis Mayfield has been unbelievable to work for," Wild said. "It's been really good on that end."

While he did not go into specifics, Wild stands to earn considerably more at Franklin High, factoring in higher salary and cheaper insurance coverage.

"We hate to see John go," said Wilson Central athletic director Chip Bevis.

"I think we've got one of the top basketball programs in the state and we'll immediately start the search to find the right person to carry on."

THIS STORY FIRST APPEARED ONLINE FRIDAY AFTERNOON, APRIL 28.
