Saturday morning, Aug. 1st -
Local elementary and middle school students, and their parents, are encouraged to arrive early Saturday morning, Aug. 1 for the 20th annual College Hills Church of Christ School Store.

The church is located at 1401 Leeville Pike in Lebanon and doors will be open from 8 to 11 a.m. for children to receive free backpacks and essential school supplies. Coordinator Annabelle Robinson said that the event is open to anyone who needs a little help in getting their backpacks and school supplies ready for the start of the 2015-16 school-year.

The school store is open to students from Byars Dowdy Elementary, Carroll Oakland Elementary, Castle Heights Elementary, Coles Ferry Elementary, Sam Houston Elementary, Southside Elementary, Tuckers Crossroads, Walter J. Baird Middle, Watertown Elementary, Watertown Middle and Winfree Bryant.

Volunteers congregated at the church on Tuesday night to pack over 900 backpacks - ranging in styles from camouflauge for boys to Doc McStuffins and butterflies for girls - with erasers, pencils and folders. Robinson said that on Saturday students will also be able to receive "grade specific" items.

Robinson founded the giveaway with her husband, Jim Robinson -- both retired educators.

Robinson said that their largest school store was in 2013 when they were able to serve over 1,100 students.

"This is done through money in the church budget and donations," she explained. "We will start in August of this year looking for good prices on backpacks for next year."
