Mayor Don Fox, who was absent from Tuesday night’s meeting, has said he would veto the measure. He has said he does not want to tell firefighters they cannot fight fires even if they must cross city limits.
The council passed on second reading an ordinance approving an interlocal agreement with the county and the City of Mt. Juliet for the Beckwith Road Interchange area at I-40. The measure involves property on the south side of the interchange owned by Dr. Robert Kaelin and Rick Mashon of CRK Real Estate LLC. The acreage crosses several jurisdictions, governmental entities and planning areas.
Council also approved on second reading an ordinance to rezone 93.69 acres on Tuckers Gap Road to the northeast of the I-40/State Route 840 interchange. The request is for a change from R-1 Lowest density residential to B-3 restricted business. Some uses allowed in the new zone include apartments, gas stations, restaurants, motels and banks.
Council also changed the date for regular city council meeting in November from Tuesday, Nov. 4 to Thursday, Nov. 6 due to the Presidential, state and local election.
In other action, the council agreed to:Purchase 500 refuse carts for the sanitation department, and authorized the purchase of a repeater station for the police department; Approved bids for the extension of sanitary sewer on Old Murfreesboro Road and Bellvue Drive.Conditionally waived the sidewalk requirement for Villas of Five OakPassed on first reading an amendment to the Natural Gas management agreement with Atmos Energy Marketing that would help protect the city from extra fees when gas use fluctuates.Agreed to a contract with Tennessee Department of Transportation to pass through funds to create an industrial access highway for Kenwal Steel.
