However, Kraft Foods filed suit to halt Cracker Barrels plans, noting its brand of Cracker Barrel cheese is trademarked and would be infringed upon, and that customers would be confused. Kraft launched its Cracker Barrel cheese in 1954.

Cracker Barrel officials locally noted that the restaurant opened in 1969 (off Highway 109) and that its logo and the logo used for Krafts Cracker Barrel cheese are different and that consumers would not suffer any confusion regarding the products.

Even so, Kraft has filed suit to keep Cracker Barrel, the company, from offering its products in groceries.

Cracker Barrel officials have sought to expand beyond the more than 600 restaurants and stores it has by offering products in other establishments and signed with a firm called John Morrell & Co. to supply meats including ham and bacon.
