Volunteers encourage all to get involved By JULIE DAVISDirector of CommunicationsCracker Barrel           About 20 employees from Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc., will be volunteering at Joseph Storehouse in Lebanon Saturday, and they are inviting others in the community to share in the experience of giving.

Joseph Storehouse is a non-profit organization that provides food for 1,700 to 2,000 people in Wilson and surrounding counties. Each month, more than 450 wheelbarrows of food are given to needy families. Each wheelbarrow contains about $160 worth of food and supplies.

Cracker Barrel employees became involved with supporting Joseph Storehouse two years ago as a philanthropic project to bring employees together in support of the community where the restaurant company was founded 40 years ago. The call to volunteerism this month is the latest effort in that ongoing connection. Employees and others in the community who come to volunteer will spend several hours boxing up food and transporting the boxes to the cars of people who are on the active list to receive food.

“We believe that it is important to support the community that you call home,” said Debra Gaylord, who is leading this volunteer initiative. “Cracker Barrel is involved in a number of philanthropic projects. This particular one allows for employees to get involved in a very hands-on way.”

Joseph Storehouse reports that it received and distributed more than 2.3 million pounds of food in 2008 and expects to distribute even more in 2009. People in the community who are interested in participating in these efforts can contact Carol Malone 453-5777 at Joseph Storehouse.
