LEBANON -- Winfree Bryant Middle School Principal Becky Kegley announced late Tuesday the hiring of Jody Criswell as the new football coach of the Aviators.
Criswell, a native of West Tennessee who played for NAIA semifinalists Lambuth University in 1996, takes over for Jeramy Ezell who resigned last month to take a position at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville.
"I know Jody will be a perfect fit for our school and our athletic department," Kegley said, "not only that, he has a reputation as a dynamic educator."
Criswell comes to Winfree Bryant after a decade coaching in the Memphis area. He was most recently the assistant head coach, Defensive Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator at Kate Bond Middle School in Memphis.
Coach Criswell has previously coached defense, special teams, wide receivers, and defensive backs at Frayser High School, Bolton High School, and Munford High School where he was part of a staff that helped revive a perennial two-win program into undefeated region champions in just one year.
He played in high school at Gibson County High in Dyer. While at Lambuth, he was part of the 1996 Mid-South Conference Champions.
He also has playing experience in the Arena 2 Football League with the 2001 Memphis Explorers.
Criswell will teach Physical Education / Health at Winfree Bryant.
