Justin B. Bradford, a 2008 graduate of Cumberland University, has turned his love for hockey into a hobby and part-time career. We will sign copies of his new book, "Nashville Predators: The Making of Smashville," on Thursday, Nov. 5 from 6 until 7 p.m. in CU's Vise Library.
The host of Penalty Box Radio on 102.5 The Game, Bradford was named the "Best Sports Reporter" for 2014 and 2015 in Nashville by readers of The Tennessean. His blog, Penalty Box Radio, was recently named the "Best Sports Blog" in Nashville. He is also CU's football team announcer at Nokes-Lasater Field.
"I was approached by The History Press a little over a year ago because they wanted to put out a book about the Nashville Predators," Bradford said. "The last book published on the team was released by the former owner in the early 2000s, so it was definitely time for an update. The franchise has been through so much already during its existence, and I'm glad that I was able to highlight so many of those moments in this book."
At Thursday's event, Bradford will talk about the writing of the book and how his education and experiences at Cumberland University helped him during the process. He will have an autographed copy of the book to give away, and copies will be available for purchase.
"It was a tremendous learning experience and the roots of my writing really started with Cumberland, where I wrote for the Cumberland Chronicle. Having a book published is not something that I ever thought I would be able to accomplish, but now that I've caught the bug, hopefully I can publish more in the future," he said.
