CU ATHLETICS -- 10 teams honored for academics

CU VOLLEYBALL: Kara Snell 3.55, Ashley Sherrick 3.63, Maci Lerno 3.64, Caprisha Webster 3.42, Michelle Evans 3.59, Isidora Markovic 3.80, Jena Goodman 3.09, Ashton Perez 3.32, Amanda Worrell 3.85, Sara Glassman 3.66 and Taylor Kasper 3.53.

Volleyball leads the way --
The NAIA honored 10 Cumberland athletic squads this week as NAIA Scholar Teams for the 2016-17 academic year.

Teams must obtain a 3.00 cumulative grade-point-average or higher for all eligible varsity student-athletes during the past academic year to garner the award.

The sports of men's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, softball, volleyball, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's golf, women's tennis, women's soccer and wrestling were all named NAIA Scholar Teams for 2016-17.

Volleyball posted the highest GPA for the academic year at 3.66, while women's soccer was next at 3.53 followed by men's soccer at 3.48 and men's golf at 3.33.

Women's golf tallied a 3.32 GPA and women's basketball collected a 3.26 followed by men's cross country at 3.25.

Softball finished at 3.17, women's cross country registered a 3.14 and wrestling netted a 3.00 for the year.

A total of 1,677 teams were honored by the NAIA for the academic success.
