Charity baseball fund-raiser Sunday
Empower Me and the Cumberland University baseball team are partnering for a fund-raiser baseball game called "No Place Like HOME Charity Tournament."

The event will be held Sunday, April 24 at 2 p.m. at Cumberland's Stockton Field / Woody Hunt Stadium.

Tournament participants have paid an entrance fee as a way to support Empower Me's efforts to build their Miracle League Field, which will provide special opportunities for those with disabilities.

The event is free to the public.

"We hope everyone in the community will come out and celebrate with us," Empower Me Executive Director Michelle Hill said.

"Empower Me's future players will also be on hand to cheer on the teams and participate in the opening ceremonies."

"Cumberland University is a proud partner with the Empower Me Center and its efforts to help the less fortunate in our community," CU Athletic Director Ron Pavan noted.

"It's a partnership that includes Cumberland student-athletes fulfilling the dreams of many individuals and benefits our students as much as it does the participants."

"We are excited for the opportunity to partner with Cumberland University's baseball team. Coach (Woody) Hunt's professionalism and dedication to baseball shines throughout him every day. We believe that every child deserves a chance to play baseball, and we want them to achieve that dream. The Miracle League Field will provide special opportunities for those with disabilities to build self-esteem and make friendships on and off the field," Empower Me Recreational Program Director Britney Wilkerson added.

The Miracle League is an international organization with over 275 leagues that serve over 225,000 children and young adults with disabilities.

The Miracle League's position is "that we cannot change or cure the medical issues life has dealt children with disabilities. What we can do is provide them with an opportunity to experience the joy and benefits that come from playing our national pastime - baseball."

Empower Me Day Camp is a non-profit organization serving individuals with disabilities.

The organization is currently raising funds to build their own home in Lebanon, the Empower Me Center. The center will include a community recreational building, a recreational sports complex and independent living cottages for individuals with special needs. It will also be the home of the Miracle League of Lebanon.
