Suber interviewing for new OC --
Cumberland University football coach Donnie Suber is looking to fill a vacancy on his staff with the recent resignation of offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach Ryan Locke. Locke is leaving CU to take a teaching / coaching position at Northridge High -- a 6A school in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
A native of Alexander City, Alabama, Locke spent the past four seasons at Cumberland -- the last two as Suber's offensive coordinator. He is a graduate of Troy University.
"I will always be appreciative to Coach (Dewayne) Alexander for hiring me and the all of the different things I had the opportunity to learn from him," Locke said. "I'm grateful to Coach Suber for putting the faith in me to run his offense. I can say that I have learned an awful lot from both of these men about football and the running of a program as a whole."
Suber is in the process of conducting interviews for the vacant position.
"Coach Locke did a heck of a job for us," Suber said. "The guy has a wealth of football knowledge and he was instrumental in helping us transition from the Hybrid Wing-T to the spread."
Locke came to Cumberland as offensive line coach under Alexander and moved to the press box as offensive coordinator when Alexander took a position at Tennessee Tech.
Suber's first move as the new coach of the Bulldogs was to promote Locke to OC. Suber indicated he has interviewed two candidates for the position and will visit with at least two more before making a hire.
"Whoever gets the job, we'll be staying in the spread," Suber said. "In fact, we won't be changing our terminology. It will be easier for the new guy to learn what we're doing rather than teach his terminology to our people on the fly."
