Cumberland University will host Ottawa University in the NAIA Championship Opening Round Saturday afternoon, Nov. 23 at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students. Admission will be at the East gate, located near the flog pole at Lindsey Donnell Stadium.
The Bulldogs, ranked ninth in the latest NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll released Sunday by the national office, will host a match in the Opening Round for the first time in program history.
Cumberland heads into the national tournament 15-3-1 overall. CU won the Mid-South Conference regular season championship before falling in overtime in the MSC Tournament finals last Friday.
Ottawa finished third in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and stands 13-6-1 overall and 7-2 in the KCAC. The Braves defeated Kansas Wesleyan on penalty kicks (7-6) in the finals of the conference championships on Saturday, earning the league’s automatic berth into the national tournament.
The NAIA Championship Opening Round is part of the 32-team NAIA Championships, with the winners of the 16 Opening Round matches advancing to the final site in Orange Beach, Ala., to crown the national champion December 2-7.
Cumberland won its Opening Round match last season at Martin Methodist before falling to Concordia [OR] University in the Round of 16 last year in Orange Beach.
