First game of double-elimination round
BOWLING GREEN, Ky/ -- No. 3-seeded Cumberland will take on No. 2-seed Lindsey Wilson at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Bowling Green Ballpark in the first game of the double elimination format in the Mid-South Conference Championships.
Live radio coverage of Friday's game can be heard at WCOR AM-1490.
The Phoenix won its opening round series at Georgetown College last weekend, 2-0 and 4-2, scoring five of its six runs in the ninth inning in the two games.
Cumberland lost 2-of-3 to the Blue Raiders four weeks ago in Columbia, Ky., taking the series opener, 7-6, thanks to six runs in the top of the ninth before dropping the doubleheader, 8-2 and 6-2.
"Lindsey Wilson is a very capable team," said CU head coach Woody Hunt. "I'm sure we'll see their number one (pitcher) Scott Sebald. We got locked up in a pitcher's duel with him the last time we played."
Sebald stands 8-3 on the season with an ERA of 2.91.
Cumberland counters with the red-hot Erik Barron, who was named Tennessee Sports Writers Association Pitcher of the Week for his three-hit effort against georgetown last week.
Barron (4-2) sports a 2.73 ERA in nine outings covering 52.2 innings. He has allowed just 43 hits with 18 walks and 46 strikeouts and opponents are batting only .225 against him.
"Lindsey Wilson is very good, they've got some offensive capabilities. I think overall, they may have the best ability in the conference," Hunt said.
Hunt's ballclub enters the tournament 31-25 overall while the Blue Raiders stand 35-20.
Adult tickets cost $12 per day with student tickets going for $7.
The first game Friday pits Campbellsville University versus St. Catharine College at 1 p.m.
