It is no secret that the search is on for a new president of Cumberland University.

The final three candidates will be in Lebanon this week for interviews with the presidential search committee, however, the names of the candidates have not been released.

Although limited information is available at this time, The Wilson Post spoke with Executive Director of Communications Phil Carter on Monday to get an update on the process.

Carter said that over the last several months the Board of Trust has been working in lockstep with a presidential search committee to conduct a national search for Cumberland's next president.

"The search has produced an impressive pool of interested, qualified and highly-motivated candidates from which the committee has selected for consideration," he explained. "They have been invited to our campus for a comprehensive and intensive interview process."

"Once the interview process is completed, the search committee will make a recommendation to the Board of Trust for vote. At that time, we will provide an official announcement with more details," Carter said.

Current President Dr. Harvill Eaton announced plans to retire from the position this past January. Eaton, who has served as the institution's chief executive officer since 2004, said he would remain president until his successor is named.
