Reunions, tailgating, football and family activities are all on tap for this weekend’s Homecoming festivities at Cumberland University.
Former students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to participate in this year’s events as it is a great opportunity to return to campus and reconnect with former classmates, friends and professors, said Phillip Carter, spokesperson.
Homecoming festivities will officially commence on Thursday in the June and Bill Heydel Fine Arts Center as the Phoenix Players proudly present “You Can’t Take it With You,” a comedy by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman. Play times are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Reservations can be made by contacting the box office at 547-1364. Admission is free.
The Sports Hall of Fame dinner will take place on Friday evening at 6 p.m. The dinner will take place at Baird Chapel. This year's Hall of Fame inductees are: Tommy Smith, Becky Weber, and the baseball team of 1988. Tickets are $25 and are available for purchase through the University's sports information office at 547-1350 or email@example.com.
Also at 6 p.m., there will be a kids basketball clinic and a slam dunk contest in the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center, these are free events.
At 8 p.m., the annual Alumni Party on the Patio will get underway at the Catron Alumni House. There will be food, drinks and music.
On Saturday at 10 a.m., the class of 1963 will gather for their 50th reunion at the President’s Home and the class of 1988 will celebrate their 25th reunion at the Learning and Career Commons at Mary White Hall.
Football tailgating will begin at 11 a.m. at Nokes-Lasater Field. Local businesses and organizations will be there with free food and drinks. The Bulldogs will kick-off against Union College at 1:30 pm. The Homecoming Queen will be crowned at halftime. The 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients will also be recognized during the second half of the game.
