Phoenix women play Campbellsville
Cumberland women's soccer will face Campbellsville University at 5 p.m. on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Championships in Bowling Green, Ky., as announced Monday by the league office.
The Phoenix, 10-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 in Mid-South play, lost the tiebreaker for the No. 2 in the eight-team tournament by virtue of the league's third tiebreaker - common opponents.
Cumberland lost on the road to Georgia Gwinnett two weeks ago while Georgetown defeated the Grizzlies, at home in September.
Cumberland and Georgetown played to a 1-1 draw this past Saturday at Georgetown, necessitating the tiebreaker scenario.
CU defeated Campbellsville, 4-0, in Lebanon on October 12, netting all four goals in the second half, including two goals and an assist from Mariah Aplin.
That was part of a four-match losing streak for the Tigers, who are 2-0-1 in their last three outings to end the season.
With a victory, Cumberland would face the winner of Georgetown and Life University in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 10.
All men's and women's matches in the conference tournament will take place at Warren East High School in Bowling Green.
