BATESVILLE, ARK -- Helena Dimantas Farias scored in the fourth minute to tie the match but Lyon College netted a goal just before halftime and another in the 80th minute, as the Scots posted a 3-1 victory over Cumberland in women’s soccer action Tuesday afternoon in the semifinals of the TranSouth Championships.
Cumberland ends its season 9-7-1 overall and tying for third in the TranSouth in the regular season and defeating Freed-Hardeman in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. The Bulldogs posted a 7-2-1 record over the last 10 matches.
Lyon (11-3-1) got on the board first with an unassisted goal from Cethlinn Cunningham just over three minutes into the match, but Dimantas Farias tied it 24 seconds later with her 13 goal of the season, also unassisted.
The teams battled throughout the rest of the first half before the Scots found the back of the net just before intermission, with Cunningham scoring again on an assist from Katie Marshall in the 42nd minute.
The second half remained scoreless until the 80th minute when it was Marshall netting the goal, this time on an assist from Cunningham.
Simone Quinn made nine saves in goal for the Bulldogs, facing 18 total shots, while Lyon keeper Erica Cox recorded just one save.
