Mason has scored eight goals in the last three matches for the Bulldogs (4-8-1, 2-5-0 Mid-South) and netted both in the first half in Thursdays win. Cumberland was the beneficiary of an own goal in the 12th minute that put CU ahead for good, as Ben Nally headed a cross over his keepers head into the back of the net.

The Bulldog defense did a nice job of blocking Patriots (6-10-0, 2-6-0) shots inside the 18-yard box, keeping them away from CU keeper Sully Shattuck, who posted his seventh victory in net this season, making four saves. St. Catharine goalie CJ Powell had four saves.

Mason scored in the second minute of the match to put CU ahead early, taking a long pass from Neil Howard, beating the defender to the ball in the box, and then calmly beating Powell low and right.

But the Patriots came right back, with Jeffrey Warren netting a goal in the 11th minute on an assist from Ashley Woods. Warren took the pass near the top of the box, pushed it past a hard-charging Shattuck and booted the ball into the open net.

The own goal put the Bulldogs ahead to stay and Luke Wilson added to the lead at the 30-minute mark, taking a pass from Morris along the right side and finding the back of the net for his third goal of the year. Mason scored again just before the half on a pass from Rodrick Zacharias, a bad angle down the left side to the far post for a 4-1 advantage at intermission.

Jacob McElyea picked up a goal in the 80th minute for CU, finding himself all alone at the back post after a cross from Morris, McElyeas first goal of the year.

Cumberland plays at the University of Pikeville on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT and will face Shawnee State on October 27 in the final regular season home match for CU.
