CU SOFTBALL -- Cumberland splits with Mid-Continent Monday

After the first two outs in the bottom of the seventh, five straight Bulldog hitters reached, including an RBI double by Victoria Bennett and Whites three-run homer to left, the second of her career. Autumn Collins followed with a single, but Megan Lavery struck out to end the contest, with the Bulldogs falling, 10-7.

Courtney Maynard (14-4) worked 5.1 innings in the opener for the win, giving up four runs on eight hits. She walked three and struck out three.

Lindsey Rucker (5-6) took the loss, allowing seven runs on four hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. Two of the four walks and the one batter that she hit all scored.

In the second game Blackwood (6-8) gave up four earned runs on seven hits in four innings for the loss, while Maynard allowed three runs on five hits in relief.

Molly Hargrove (6-6) got the victory for MCU, giving up seven runs on six hits in 6.2 innings. She walked two, hit three and struck out two. Rucker got the final out for the Cougars.

Cumberland travels to Bethel University on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader and plays at Union University on Saturday in a twinbill at Noon.
