Sitting area to be dedicated --
Cumberland University baseball will host a dedication ceremony for the Louis Payton Sitting Area just inside the main gate at Ernest L. Stockton Field-Woody Hunt Stadium on Thursday, April 16, at 11 a.m.

Payton passed away January 8, 2014, in Nashville after an extended illness. He was a regular at Cumberland sporting events and really anywhere on campus for 30-plus years.

The Bulldogs honored Payton at the 2014 Dinner and Auction that raises funds for the program and this sitting area will be a lasting salute to his love for the University.

CU's baseball team also wore a uniform patch honoring Payton in the 2014 NAIA World Series.

"I couldn't tell you how many times he threw out the first pitch for us," head coach Woody Hunt said. "He loved Cumberland and Cumberland loved him right back. We could all learn a lesson or two from Louie. He was a loving, trusting soul."
