MT. JULIET -- Cumberland University’s Masters of Education in Instructional Leadership Program will be hosting a School Leaders Preparation Forum on Friday, Oct. 25 from 5-6 p.m. at CU’s Mt. Juliet location.
The forum will include a panel of directors and principals who will discuss the opportunities and challenges of being a school leader.
The forum is designed to provide meaningful insight to the role of a school leader, professional development, and networking. Discussions will focus on current and emerging trends in education and leadership.
“As educators around the state work hard to implement the new and more rigorous direction set by the Department of Education, there are many opportunities for positive change in Tennessee’s schools,” said Dr. Eric Cummings, Dean of the School of Humanities, Education and the Arts. “One area in which there has been much change is in new directions for school leaders and school leadership. We are bringing together some important voices in the region to discuss challenges and opportunities.”
This event will be a great opportunity for teachers to connect with superintendents and principals who will be sharing their thoughts and experiences on school leader preparation. “Teachers who are thinking of becoming school leaders one day need to hear from today’s leaders, so they know how best to prepare for that big new role,” said Dr. Kim Finch, the director of Cumberland’s program for Instructional Leadership.
Panelists scheduled to participate include Dr. Timothy Setterlund, Director of Wilson County Schools; Clint Satterfield, Director of Trousdale County Schools; Brian Hutto, Principal of Coles Ferry Elementary; and Myra Sloan, Principal of Lebanon High School. Also attending will be a representative from the State Department of Education.
