The Cumberland University women’s tennis will open play Monday in the NAIA National Tennis Championships in Mobile, Alabama.
The No. 11th ranked Lady Dawgs are riding a 21-2 record into the national tournament.
This season has seen the women’s team win both the TranSouth regular season and conference tournament championships and steadily climb up the national rankings.
CU will face off in the first round of the national championships on Monday, May 12 against Bethany College from Kansas.
Bethany received an automatic bid to the tournament as the Region IV Champions.
"The ladies have played so well this season and I think we got a good draw in the tournament so if we stay focused we can win a couple of matches and then anything is possible next week" said head coach Bill Riddle.
Cumberland is lead by the No. 1 doubles team of Natalia Yakimovich and Beatriz Mompo -- who finished the regular season, conference tournament and regional tournament undefeated this year.
They are currently 22-0 and are ranked No. 16 in the ITA national doubles rankings.
