Musical theatre students of the Cumberland Arts Academy are gearing up to show off what they've learned this semester. They will present a Christmas Cabaret show this weekend.

"Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," directed by Brendan Martel, will feature favorite holiday songs such as "White Christmas," "I'll Be Home for Christmas," "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch," and more. Show dates are Friday, Dec. 11, and Saturday, Dec. 12th - at 7 p.m. both days. Admission to the show is free.

"The students are dancing, singing and acting the whole show. It's very much a show choir-style show," Martel said, adding that there will be a Santa photo booth set up for guests to enjoy prior to the show. Refreshments will be served after the show.

"We just want people to come and enjoy it," she said of the hour-and-a-half long production.

Martel said the students, who are 7th, 8th, and 9th graders from Wilson County schools, decided early in the semester to work on a Christmas show.

The Cumberland Arts Academy is located across the street from Cumberland University's Heydel Fine Arts Center.

Martel is a graduate of Cumberland University, where she earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Theatre.
