CU's Campagne earns statewide honor

TSWA Defensive Player of the Week
Cumberland defensive back Alex Campagne was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, posting nine tackles, forcing a fumble, returning another fumble 12 yards and recording two pass breakups in CU's victory over Campbellsville University.

The Crestview, Fla., native blocked the PAT on the Tigers first TD of the game and picked up a fumble, returning it 12 yards in the second quarter.

The junior forced a fumble early in the fourth quarter that the Phoenix recovered and registered a season-high nine stops from his nickel position. He added one quarterback hurry as well.

Campagne has 39 tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions with four pass breakups while starting all eight games this season for Cumberland, which heads to 19th-ranked Bethel University Saturday for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
