The search has started to find a new Wilson County Convention and Tourism Bureau Director. The position was vacated by former director Terri Merryman on Friday, July 29.
Merryman, who has a rich background in television news, officially assumed the title of CVB director on Aug. 24, 2014. It was first reported on The Wilson Post's website last week that Merryman was leaving the CVB to take on a new role as media relations and communications coordinator for the Tennessee Department of Agriculture.
Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto said they will miss Merryman, but wish her well in her next venture.
"We are excited for her," he said. "As she moves on, we have posted the job."
The job posting to locate a new CVB director will run through Aug. 26. At that point, Hutto said he will assemble a committee to look through the applications. "We hope to have somebody in place by mid-September," he said.
Hutto said he hasn't yet narrowed down who will serve on the selection committee. "When I hired the Expo Center marketing mirector (Charity Toombs), I had the ag director there, someone from HR (human resources)," he explained. "It all depends on who that person is going to work with."
Hutto said that he is looking for a candidate who is willing to get out and bring new and different things to Wilson County for tourism.
"Somebody who is familiar with the activities we have and to promote those as well," he said. "There are a lot of good attractions around."
