Richard Henry "Dick" Miller
A memorial service for Mr. Miller, 81 of Mt. Juliet, will be Saturday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet. Visitation with the family will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until time of the service.
He died Friday, Feb. 5, 2016 at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage.
Mr. Miller was born in Detroit to the late Henry and Anne Marie Miller on June 5, 1934. He went to Cass Technical High School in Detroit and later attended Wayne State University College of Engineering. He worked as a design engineer on the space program in Huntsville, Ala. at Chrysler Missile Division and Astro-Space Labs. Later, he spent 20 years working as an engineering manager at Genesco in Whitehall, Mich. and in Nashville before retiring in 1991.
He loved sports and excelled at softball, bowling and golf and also spent time as an assistant Little League coach. He devoted many years of his life to volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 206 for several years.
Mr. Miller loved classical music, cooking and traveling. He, his wife and family took many trips across the United States and to the Caribbean.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55-and-a-half years, Carolyn Miller of Mt. Juliet; sons, Dean Miller of Miami and Duane Miller of San Diego; and sister, Marilyn Frost of Greenville, S.C. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Miller and Anne Marie Miller of Detroit.
