Local girls will compete Thursday
MURFREESBORO -- Lebanon High senior Will Earps finished in ninth place in the Class AAA decathlon Tuesday, held at Middle Tennessee State's Dean A. Hayes Track & Soccer Stadium.
Earps won the final event of the competition, the 1,500 meters, in a time of 4:46.51 Earlier in the day he placed third in the shot put with a heave of 38 feet, three-quarters inches.
Here's how he fared in Tuesday's final five events:

Following five events on Monday, Earps found himself in 10th place out of 12 competitors with 2,621 points.
Here's how Earps fared in Monday's events:
Tenth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.56.
Ninth in the pole vault at 8'6";
Tenth in the discus at 86'9";
Eighth in the triple jump at 41'2.5 and;
He recorded a seventh place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 52.59.
On Monday, Earps was forced to use a borrowed pole in the vault after his pole vanished after it was checked in.
Track officials were operating under the theory that the pole was mistakenly picked up by a Division II athlete who had wrapped up their competition earlier in the afternoon.
On Thursday, Wilson Central junior Rebecka Mannerford will compete in the high jump while Mt. Juliet freshman Julia Karsten will compete Thursday afternoon in the 400m dash.
Wilson Central's Braidon Miller is set to compete Friday at 9 a.m. in the shot put, while at 10:15 Lebanon's Raheem Reynolds is scheduled for the triple jump.
Mt. Juliet Christian Academy senior Josiah Scott will be making a return trip to Spring Fling in the Division II discus. Finals for the DII discus are set to start at 9 a.m. Friday.
Miller and his brother Kolin will both compete in the Class AAA discus at 11:30 with Lebanon's David Covile taking part in the high jump at 12 Noon.
Friday afternoon marks the start of the running events with Mt. Juliet's 4 X 100 relay team (Luke Tibbs, Christian Mahoney, Dillon Downs, Johnny Campbell, Noah Edmondson, Cole Shea and Michael Ruttlen) competing.
Wilson Central's 4 X 800 meter relay team (Nathan Peterson, Russell Riggan, Joel Barlow, Baylor Franklin, John Elrod and Grant Pody) are also set to compete Friday afternoon.
Lebanon senior Duvwon "DJ" Baker has qualified for the 300 meter hurdles.
Friendship Christian School's JaJuan "Speedy" Foutch will run the 200 meter dash in the 3 p.m. session Friday in the Division II finals.
Admission is $10 per person for a Spring Fling all-day pass. Parking is $5 per vehicle.
