WATERTOWN -- Neighboring DeKalb County scored a doubleheader sweep Tuesday night at Watertown High. Down nine in the early going, DeKalb County’s girls staged a steady comeback and knocked off Watertown High 45-38. Coach Lane Price’s team struggled against pressure - turning the ball over 24 times.
Tigerette Morgan Gartner knocked down 11-of-14 shots from the field and scored a game-high 22 points as Watertown slid to 7-2 on the season. Jordan Brewington, Hayley Clark and Hailey Speck each scored five points.
The nightcap found the Purple Tigers behind 25-17 after one period and playing catch-up the rest of the evening in a 55-38 loss. Watertown dropped to 5-4 on the season as Ben Bain scored eight points. Macieo Gaines and KeAnDre Bates added seven each while Anthony Jordan had five.
The Watertown teams will be back in action Tuesday in the annual Watertown Christmas Tournament. Watertown will play Pleasant View Christian in a 7 p.m. twinbill, capping a full day of hoops action. Other participating teams include: Monterey, Trousdale County, Cheatham County, Warren County, DeKalb County and Pickett County.
