Tournament bumped up to Thursday
Cumberland senior outfielder Ryan Dickison was voted First Team All-Mid-South Conference and Stephen Fischer, Nick McGrew and Mike Melendez all garnered Second Team honors, as announced by the league office Wednesday in advance of the conference tournament that begins Thursday and Friday with best 2-of-3 series.

Dickison leads the Phoenix in almost every offensive statistical category, batting .339 in 53 contests with 12 doubles, four triples, six home runs, 48 RBIs and 38 runs scored.

The Garden Grove, Calif., native leads the squad in average, triples, home runs and RBIs and is tied for the team lead in doubles and runs scored. He has 18 multi-hit and 14 multi-RBI outings this season, also team-highs in both categories, and has 19 RBIs in 21 conference games.

Fischer has posted a 9-2 record with a 3.56 earned-run-average in 81.0 innings this season. The senior righthander has allowed 79 hits with 20 walks and 46 strikeouts in 15 appearances and 11 starts, tossing seven complete games.

The Bradenton, Fla., native won his first six decisions of the year, defeating Madonna University, Lyon College and Point University, and collected conference victories against the University of the Cumberlands, Georgetown College and Campbellsville University.

McGrew is batting .330 in 52 contests with eight doubles, two triples, three homers, 31 RBIs and 38 runs scored. The San Jose, Calif., native ranks second on the club among the regulars in average, triples and RBIs and is tied for the team lead in runs scored. The junior is batting .312 with 12 RBIs and 17 runs in 21 conference games this season while playing second base, shortstop and third base during the campaign.

Melendez is batting .325 overall with 12 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 27 RBIs and 23 runs scored in 49 games.

The Miramar, Fla., native is tied for the team lead in doubles and ranks fourth in RBIs, all while pulling double-duty. The senior lefthander also has a 3-7 mark on the mound with a 3.97 ERA in 68.0 innings of work, striking out 78 with 46 walks and one save in 15 appearances.

Cumberland begins its best 2-of-3 series Thursday with a single game at 2 p.m. Central Time at Georgetown College.

The teams play again at 2 p.m. CT on Friday with an if necessary game to follow. All three games in the series will be nine innings.
