Central sweeps LHS Wednesday --
LEBANON -- The Wilson Central tennis teams swept a pair of District 9-AAA matches from host Lebanon High Wednesday afternoon at the Boyd-Rushing Courts.

The Wildcats claimed a hard-fought 4-3 win over Lebanon with senior Houston Wood pulling out the deciding match with a 7-5, 6-3 decision over LHS junior John Kelley.

Wilson Central (1-0 in District 9-AAA, 1-0 overall), started the day with wins at the one doubles position with Wood and senior Akbar Rahmani defeating Giovanni Santos and Kaleb Jasper by a score of 8-5.

The victory was quickly followed up with a win from Central's Andrew Denning who handled Gavin Duvall 8-3.

The Blue Devils (0-1 in 9-AAA, 1-1 overall) got on the board with a win at two doubles as Kelley and Tyler Gavin defeated Braden Hammer and Michael Mercante 8-3.

Mercante picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Gavin to put the Wildcats up 3-1 before Wood clinched the win.

Santos defeated Rahman 6-4, 6-1 at three singles, and Jasper defeated Hammer 6-3, 6-1 at the four singles position.

The Lady Wildcats raced out to a 2-0 lead after the doubles portion, and never looked back for a 7-0 win.

Wilson Central (1-0, 1-1) picked up a win at one doubles as junior Cassie Joslin and sophomore Savannah Westbrook downed Lebanon senior Morgan Harmon and junior Sidney Kurtz 8-2.

Seniors Jennifer Beckham and Lani Lee gave Wilson Central its second point by defeating junior Adyson Palmer and Nicole Bashour 8-1.

Lebanon (0-1, 0-1) continued to struggle as Westbrook claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kurtz at the two singles position, and Lee's 6-1, 6-1 victory over Harmon at one singles gave Wilson Central the deciding point.

Joslin defeated Palmer 6-2, 6-2 win at the three singles position, and sophomore Sydney Miller closed out Bashour 6-4, 6-0.

Beckham finished off the match with an 8-4 win over junior Mattie Post at five singles.
