Donald Llew Campbell, 85

LEBANON -- Funeral services have been set for 3 p.m. Sunday, May 16 at the Sellars Funeral Home on the Baddour Parkway for Mr. Campbell, 85, of Lebanon.
Born Dec 20, 1924 in Athol, MA, the World War II veteran died May 11, 2010 at Alive Hospice at St. Thomas Hospital.
Mr. Campbell graduated from Admiral Farragut Naval Prep School in Toms River, N.J. He attended Norwich University and enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943, receiving his pilot wings at Foster Field, Victoria, TX.
He was the youngest 2nd Lt. in a class of 300 and was one of four in his class selected to attend Central Instructor's School, Randolph Filed, TX. Mr. Campbell graduated with Instructor's rating in 1945 and was a flight instructor at Advanced Flying School, Foster Field, Victoria, TX 1945-1946.
He joined the Tennessee Air National Guard in 1954 and piloted jet aircraft until 1959 with the rank of Captain. Mr. Campbell was a member of Lebanon Rotary from 1960-1967, was on Middle TN Council Boy Scouts of America, a member Wilson County Library Board as chairman of the Building Committee, Trustee in Highland Rim Regional Library Center in Murfreesboro.
He was a Junior Achievement Advisor, a director of the Lebanon / Wilson County Chamber of Commerce, 1965-1968; director of Lebanon YMCA '65-'68; director TN Retail Hdwe. Assoc. 1964-1970 and Senior Warden of the Church of the Epiphany, Episcopal.
Mr. Campbell had a long and successful career as a salesman with Belknap Manufacturing and Simplicity Manufacturing Company, was co-owner of Wilson County Hardware and he and his wife enjoyed a "working retirement" as advertising account executives with Rand McNally Campground Publications.
The family will receive friends at Sellars Funeral Home Sunday from 1 p.m. until the service at 3 p.m. with Pastor Matt Steinhauer officiating.
Survivors include: his wife of 65 years Peggy Westmoreland Campbell; sister Jean Gearing, San Diego CA; daughters Melinda (Bill) Campbell of Powder Springs, GA; Melanie (Tommy) Crockett of Lebanon; Maryllew Campbell (Partlow) of Brentwood; Lisa (Buddy) Ingram of Carthage.
Also surviving are grandsons Michael (Paola) Partlow, James Daniel Partlow, Ian (Banica) Crockett, Andy (Keisha) Campbell, Nathan Campbell; step-grandsons Jacob Ingram, Tyler Ingram; granddaughters Maggie (David)Silvey, Mary Ellen (Craig) Blackstone, Emily (Joel) Smartt, Catherine (Ollihum) Dye; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces Robin (Gary) Stallins, Margie Patton, Laura (Sam) Samal; nephew Chris (Janelle) Gearing.
Mr. Campbell is preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Leona Brown Campbell and granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Campbell.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Pavilion in Lebanon, the nursing staff of Two North at UMC, the Doctors at St. Thomas Hospital and the staff of Alive Hospice.
Honorary Pallbearers: sons-in-law Tommy Crockett, Bill Campbell and Buddy Ingram. Grandsons Ian Crockett, Michael and James Daniel Partlow, Andy and Nathan Campbell, Jacob and Tyler Ingram.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Alive Hospice, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or the Parkinson's Foundation.
