As chairman of the Wilson County Election Commission, I have observed in the last few years the election process from each election to its certified end. I conclude that we have the best poll workers in the state of Tennessee. They are very committed and dedicated to observing, following rules and overseeing the process so that Wilson County citizens have an opportunity to vote in a timely manner. With each election, they undergo training and concern themselves with following correct election law procedures while helping to process the voters in a timely manner.
The staff at the Wilson County Election Office, Kathryn McCleskey and Melia Anderson have been outstanding in their dedication, expertise, knowledge and attention to the work that is so important in running this necessary operation on a daily basis. They are to be commended for their work.
To administrator Phillip Warren and assistant administrator Tammy Smith, I have been very proud of the tireless hard work exhibited by both of them as they have spent long hours upgrading the physical facilities, adding early voting precincts for the convenience of voters, increasing awareness of the registration process by providing information to voters concerning where and when to vote through the use of various means and technology/media outlets. In addition to all of the above, they have brought to fruition a new improved voter system, known as Express Vote, used this year in the presidential election. This system has streamlined the voting experience and added another layer of assurance through the paper ballot addition to ensure the integrity of every vote cast. I believe that the motto for our election administrators must be: "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible just takes a little longer."
Last but not least, I am very proud of our Wilson County Commissioners who listened and saw the real need for our new machines and approved the funds for the purchase of the new voting system. Thank you.
