MT. JULIET -- Elzie D. Patton Elementary School’s principal and bookkeeper have resigned amidst an investigation into alleged financial irregularities.
Lori Hassell turned in her resignation this past Friday, said Dr. Tim Setterlund, Wilson County Schools director. He added that Stan Moss has been appointed as interim principal for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year. The school is located in Mt. Juliet, adjacent to Mt. Juliet Middle School.
Setterlund said that there were some financial irregularities that led to Hassell’s resignation, but that the incident was being investigated by the comptroller’s officer and that he was not at liberty to comment further.
“Once we are able to do an audit I will have more information,” he said, adding that the school’s bookkeeper also resigned recently.
“I cannot comment until we know all the facts. At this time Ms. Hassell is not under investigation for fraud or anything like that,” the director said.
Setterlund said a search to find a permanent principal for the school will begin this spring. “We want to find and interview candidates and have whoever we select work with Mr. Moss this spring to plan for the next school year.”
