There is a lot of summer fun to be had in the upcoming weeks in Wilson County: live music, movies and shopping.
On June 18 and July 16 at 6:30 p.m., the Lebanon Wilson County Chamber of Commerce special events division is presenting their live music event, Jammin' with the General on the Lebanon Public Square. The first performer will be singer, songwriter and guitarist, Verlon Thompson.
Thompson has spent 30 years as a professional songwriter and traveling troubadour performing on stages from Barcelona to Binger (his hometown in Oklahoma). His compositions have been recorded by Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson, Anne Murray, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, Del McCoury, Sam Bush, Trisha Yearwood and many more.
Due to ongoing construction related to the Lebanon Public Square Safety Project, the June 18 concert will be held in the parking lot of the Capitol Theatre. The event is open to the public, and admission is free. Music fans are encouraged to come out earlier to tour the retailers on the Square and enjoy shopping. Several stores will stay open late for the occasion. Concessions including Nashville's Yazoo Beer will be open for business during the event.
On July 16, Journey fans will not want to miss "Resurrection - A Journey Tribute." This group of talented Nashville musicians sets out to give listeners the experience of a classic Journey live performance. Attendees should be sure to bring a lawn chair to sit and enjoy the festivities. Local food vendors will be available and many stores on the square will remain open for the event.
One new store on the Lebanon Square that shoppers should be sure to visit in the upcoming weeks is High Cotton. High Cotton had its grand opening on June 13, just in time for Father's Day. The shop sells men's apparel and gifts.
Music lovers should also be sure to attend Providence MarketPlace's 2015 Summer Concert Series. Providence will be featuring local artists every Saturday night in June from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on the stage in front of the movie theater.
Regal Cinemas in Providence and Roxy Cinemas in Lebanon will also have $1 kids' movies every Tuesday and Wednesday through July 29. The theaters will be showing popular movies such as "Paddington," "The Lego Movie," "The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water," and "How to Train Your Dragon."
Stay busy this summer by putting these fun events on your calendar.
