From Post staff reports
Mt. Juliet will play host to the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association on Friday, Feb. 19 to tout the benefits of alpaca fibers used in the textile and fashion industries.
The reason for the annual conference is to inform and celebrate the uses of alpaca fibers as an eco-conscious alternative material.
The conference titled “Alpaca: The Earth-Friendly Fiber” will exhibit the designs of fashion and design students from all across the country. The competition was created seven years ago to promote the use of alpaca fiber in fashion and textile design to a larger audience, starting at the fundamental level of our educational institutions.
The exhibit will be on display for the duration of the conference to be viewed by hundreds of alpaca industry professionals, fashion, textile & yarn manufacturers, and production mills.
The top winning students in each category will be our Guests of Honor invited to receive their scholarships in person at the opening & awards ceremony. Part or all of the hotel and travel expenses will be paid.
Every submission is eligible for one of three cash scholarships in each category.
And if any of the winning designs are suitable for manufacturing, vendors may choose to produce the item and pay royalties to the student.
Nationwide, there are over 7,000 alpaca breeders who are members of the AOBA.
The event will be held Friday, Feb. 19 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Mt. Juliet Holiday Inn Express and Suites.
