Fair contest entries begin this week

Excitement is building as folks prepare for the 2015 Wilson County Fair. The fair, themed "Cedars, Oaks and Country Folks," will open on Aug. 14th at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center.

Contest entries in several categories and pageant registration will begin this weekend.

Entries in the new Amateur Wine Show will be taken Friday, Aug. 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Veterans Building. The Amateur contest is open to Tennessee residents and no entrant shall be involved in any way with commercial winemaking or use the facilities of commercial wineries. These entries will be judged in a blind testing on Saturday, Aug. 8.

On Saturday non-perishable entries in adult and youth exhibits, fine arts, photography and stained glass will be taken from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., also in the Veterans Building.

On Sunday, Aug. 9 Pageant Registration will be in full swing in the Pageant Pavilion. Pageants include the Baby Show, Doll Parade, Fair Princess, Fairest of the Fair and King of the Fair.

Times for the Baby Show Registration are as follows: 10:30 a.m. for boys and girls ages 0-6 months and twins and triplets; 11:30 a.m for children ages 7-12 months; 1:30 p.m. for children ages 13-18 months; and 2:20 p.m. for children ages 19-24 months. Entries will not be accepted on Sunday after 4 p.m. The entry fee is $10 per contestant and is cash only, payable at registration.

Registration fee for the Doll Parade is $15. The Doll Parade is divided up by age. Division I is open to ages 2-3 and Division II is open to ages 4-6.

Registration fee for the Fair Princess Revue and the King of the Fair is $15 per contestant. The Fair Princess Revue is open to ages 7-15, and broken up into divisions by age. The King of the Fair is open to ages 2-6.

Registration for Fairest of the Fair is $30 and must be paid at registration. Each contestant must have reached her 16th birthday by the date of registration, but not her 21st on or before Dec. 31, 2015.

The deadline to register for the 13th Annual Ms. Tennessee Senior Wilson County Pageant is Friday, Aug. 7th. Contact Sue Vanatta or Linda Spencer for information at 615-218-5526 and 615-476-3950 respectively. This pageant is open to ladies 60 and over.
