Lodged under $250,000 bond
Lebanon Police arrested John Thomas Cormier, Jr., 21, of Lebanon in relation to the Aug. 18 death of his 3-month-old child.
Chief Scott Bowen told The Wilson Post that due to the sensitive nature of the case other names, such as the name of the infant, have not been released at this time.
On Aug. 18, Lebanon Police responded to a call of an unresponsive infant at 1701 Summerfield Drive. Officers, upon arrival, performed CPR on the 3-month-old until medical personnel could arrive and WEMA responders transported the child to University Medical Center.
The baby was pronounced dead at UMC. The infant was then taken to the State Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy.
The department investigation, led by Detective Tim Murray, questioned those involved with the care of the infant. Murray worked closely with the State Medical Examiner's Office and the 15th Judicial District Attorney General's Office.
After receiving the findings from the State Medical Examiner's Office, evidence related to the case was presented to the Wilson County Grand Jury. Indictments for First Degree Murder and Aggravated Child Abuse were returned.
Cormier is currently in the Wilson County Jail under a $250,000 bond.
