Turner rolls six strikes to open finals --
SMYRNA -- Talk about a hot start. Friendship Christian's Donny Turner rolled six consecutive strikes in the state finals and went on to capture the Division II individual crown Friday morning at the Smyrna Bowling Center.
A junior, Turner handily defeated Conner Nichols of St. Benedict (243-147) in the finals.
"I was super nervous at the start, but after the first four frames, I was much less worried," Turner said, "after the sixth one I was wondering if I could shoot 300."
In the Division I finals, Lebanon High senior Dustin Brakefield held the top seed going into Friday, but lost 226-213 to defending champ Cole Flatt of Columbia Central in the finals.
"I hit the pocket every time," Brakefield said, "I just didn't get the breaks I wanted, that's pretty much all I can say. I'm glad to be in second, that's better that I thought I would do."
Flatt, a sophomore, was seeded sixth going into Friday's finals and won four matches to reach Brakefield in the finals.
