Commanders top McCallie in finals
SMYRNA -- Friendship Christian School repeated as TSSAA Division II state bowling champion with an impressive 20-7 victory over McCallie Saturday at the Smyrna Bowling Center.

The Commanders won 20-7 with a pinfall of 3,164 compared to 2,989 for McCallie.

"This is almost unbelievable," said FCS coach Mark Strickland. "We feel fortunate to be back here. The kids play like a team, we're extremely proud of the way they've performed throughout the season.

"We didn't bowl quite as well here in the tournament, I was hoping for 3,300 or 3,200 -- but you can't complain with 3,100 pins knocked out in the state finals."

Leading 5-3 after the first of three games, the Commanders (19-1 overall) set the tone in the second game by bowling five consecutive strikes.

Senior Cole Buttrey had the high game with a 216 and high series with 564.

McCallie ended the season with a record of 17-4 overall.
