FCS hosts Davidson Academy
Tonight's the night as five of Wilson County's prep football teams open the 2016 season.
Home games this evening include Friendship Christian's game with Davidson Academy. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Pirtle Field.
FCS looks to have junior Colt Mahoney taking snaps at quarterback with much of the offense geared around the running game and tailback Spencer Burge.
A senior, Burge ran for 1,026 yards in 2015 and scored 12 touchdowns.
The status of fleet-footed JaJuan "Speedy" Foutch appears to be a game time decision as the junior nurses a chronic ankle injury.
Davidson Academy is expected to run behind massive offensive lineman Obinna Eze (6-7, 280, SR) who committed earlier this week to the University of Memphis.
Gallatin at Mt. Juliet
Mt. Juliet's Golden Bears are braced to host the Gallatin Green Wave in a 7 p.m. contest.
Senior Mason Earls has moved from receiver to quarterback and will be operating behind a massive offensive line -- a group that averages 6-3, 282 pounds per man.
Live radio coverage begins at 6 p.m. on WHIN AM-1010 out of Gallatin.
Wilson Central at Beech
Wilson Central's Wildcats will visit Shackle Island Stadium to take on Beech tonight in a 7 p.m. contest.
The Wildcats have played well during the preseason, most recently in a 10-0 win over Gallatin in jamboree action a week ago.
Watertown at GHS
Watertown travels to Smith County tonight to take on longtime rival Gordonsville at Turney Ford Field. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
WHS will run up against a veteran group at Gordonsville with a roster sporting 20 seniors.
Live radio coverage at 6:30 p.m. on WRKM AM-1350 out of Carthage.
MJCA at Cornersville
Mt. Juliet Christian Academy ventures to Marshall County to play Cornersville tonight in the season-opener.
The Saints thumped Hillwood 28-13 last week in the Metro Jamboree as Alex Pitman threw two touchdown passes to Logan Collier.
